Course Overview:

A project-based workshop over 3 days where children get to design a Home for themselves or their Family. Children will apply Design Thinking principles to identify the needs and challenges of who they are designing for and be introduced to the basics of space planning for a home.

Course Content:

Over the 3 day camp, students will begin their project applying Design Thinking steps to define the needs for their home design with understanding of what their family members would need or like to have. They will start with basic space planning for their home. On Day 2, students will begin building up their homes in 3D with consideration of the spaces, openings and roof form. On the last day, students will focus on the communal spaces for activities for their family with consideration for greenery around the house. The 3-day camp will conclude with a sharing of everyone's unique and individual designs allowing cross-exchange of ideas and to build up students' confidence to share their creations with all.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will learn to translate their 2D planning to 3D model with consideration for architectural scale, light, ventilation, views and communal landscape areas in their design. They will learn basic model-making skills and get creative transforming everyday materials into their individual home model prototype. Every child’s home design will be different and unique, catering to their family's needs.
