Overview
The Primary 1 Chinese Enrichment program introduces young learners to the basics of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Mandarin Chinese. Aligned with the Ministry of Education (MOE) syllabus, this course focuses on building a strong foundation in language skills through engaging activities, comprehension practices, and interactive oral exercises. Students will also explore fun vocabulary-building exercises and simple grammar structures, all while fostering a positive attitude towards learning Chinese and enjoyably enhancing communication skills.
Course Objective
To equip students with the fundamental language skills needed for effective communication in Chinese, developing reading, listening, speaking, and writing abilities while sparking an interest and appreciation for the language.

- Comprehension Practices (simple passages and story retelling)
- Listening Comprehension and Oral Practices (dialogues, simple conversations)
- Weekly Vocabulary and Grammar Practices (basic characters, sentence structures)
- Fun Show and Tell Projects (introducing self, sharing stories)
Course Content
The Primary Chinese Enrichment Programme at Agora Co-Learning Space focuses on developing core language skills in alignment with the MOE Chinese syllabus, including oral communication, comprehension practices, Hanyu Pinyin, and weekly character learning. The curriculum is designed to be both engaging and interactive to build strong language foundations for young learners.
- Creative Writing (Lessons 1 & 6): Students will develop their writing skills by crafting simple sentences and short stories, focusing on structure, vocabulary, and creativity.
- Open-Ended Comprehension (Lessons 2 & 4): Students will practice reading comprehension through open-ended questions, enhancing their ability to extract key information from texts.
- Oral Communication (Lessons 3 & 7): Oral presentations and discussions will improve speaking fluency, correct pronunciation, and confidence in expressing ideas.
- Listening Comprehension (Lessons 5 & 8): Activities designed to improve students' listening skills, focusing on understanding spoken language and responding to audio-based exercises.
- Show and Tell Project (Lessons 9 & 10): Students will plan, prepare, and present a short speech, applying their language skills in a fun and creative way.
- This structured approach ensures that students receive a balanced education in writing, speaking, listening, and reading comprehension.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Write Creatively: Use correct sentence structure, basic grammar, and new vocabulary to write simple, coherent stories.
- Develop Oral Communication Skills: Speak confidently in Chinese with appropriate vocabulary, proper pronunciation, and fluency in daily conversations and presentations.
- Improve Comprehension: Read and understand simple Chinese texts, answering open-ended questions and drawing out key details.
- Listen and Respond: Accurately listen to and understand short audio passages, answering questions based on what they heard.
- Present and Communicate: Plan and deliver a Show and Tell project, confidently expressing their ideas in front of an audience.

Prerequisites
This course is designed for Primary 1 students with basic knowledge of Chinese. Familiarity with Hanyu Pinyin, basic sentence structures, and common Chinese characters is helpful but not required. No prior coursework is needed, but students should be comfortable reading and recognizing simple characters and phrases.
Assessment Methods
Students will be assessed through:
- Weekly Vocabulary & Character Quizzes: Regular vocabulary and character tests to ensure retention and mastery of new words.
- Comprehension Assessments: revision and activities to assess understanding of both reading and listening materials.
- Oral Presentations: Assessment of speaking skills through interactive
- discussions, oral communication activities, and the Show and Tell Project.
- Creative Writing: Evaluation of written assignments focusing on vocabulary, grammar, creativity, and sentence structure.
- Show and Tell Project: The final assessment will evaluate students' ability to present ideas clearly and confidently, using appropriate vocabulary and pronunciation.
Required Materials
- Writing Tools: Pens, pencils, erasers, and notebooks for creative writing and activities.
- Audio Materials: Listening comprehension activities (provided in class).
- Practice Sheets: Weekly vocabulary sheets and Hanyu Pinyin practice materials (provided).
