Overview

The P1 English program is designed to introduce young learners to the foundational skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English. Through interactive activities, stories, and exercises, students will develop a strong base of language skills while building confidence in communication. The course aims to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and an enjoyment of learning English from an early age.

Course Content

Our Primary 1 English Enrichment Programme is designed to support students in mastering essential language skills aligned with the Singapore MOE syllabus. The course focuses on Oral Communication, Comprehension Practices, and developing Vocabulary and Grammar. We will improve students’ confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through various activities.


  • Grammar & Vocabulary: Each lesson will feature weekly grammar and spelling practice to strengthen the foundation of language structure and vocabulary.


  • Writing & Oral Communication: In Lessons 1 and 2, students will work on writing and orally presenting their self-introductions, helping them develop clear communication skills.


  • Comprehension: Lessons 3 and 4 will cover comprehension skills, focusing on both visual texts and listening comprehension to sharpen students' ability to understand and interpret different types of content.


  • Creative Storytelling: In Lessons 8-10, students will engage in the Tell a Story series, where they plan, create, and present their own stories, building creativity and public speaking skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Grammar and Vocabulary: Demonstrate a solid understanding of basic grammar rules, including sentence structure, punctuation, and word forms. Spelling and vocabulary skills will be strengthened through weekly drills.
  • Oral Communication: Improve verbal communication skills by confidently introducing themselves, presenting ideas, and engaging in interactive discussions.
  • Comprehension: Demonstrate the ability to interpret visual texts and engage in listening comprehension exercises, improving their ability to understand and analyze different forms of content.
  • Storytelling: Develop creative thinking and narrative skills through the planning, creation, and presentation of stories.


Teaching Methods

  • The course employs a variety of instructional strategies to ensure an engaging and effective learning environment:
  • Direct Instruction: Key grammar and vocabulary concepts are taught through explicit instruction, followed by guided practice.
  • Interactive Activities: Students engage in role-playing, group discussions, and storytelling exercises to enhance oral communication.
  • Comprehension Activities: Visual texts, audio recordings, and comprehension questions are used to build listening and reading comprehension skills.
  • Project-Based Learning: The storytelling project allows students to apply their language skills creatively and structure, culminating in a presentation.


Prerequisites

This course has no specific prerequisites; however, students should be comfortable with basic literacy skills at the Primary 1 level. This includes recognizing letters, basic phonetic knowledge, and an interest in speaking and listening.


Assessment Methods

Students will be evaluated through a mix of formal and informal assessments:

  • Oral presentations: Regular show-and-tell projects and oral activities where students present their work to peers.
  • Written assignments: Grammar exercises and short writing tasks like self-introductions and story writing.
  • Comprehension tests: Listening comprehension exercises and visual text analyses to assess understanding.
  • Exam Revision: A combination of grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension assessments in Lessons 6-7.


Required Materials

  • Materials: Writing tools, notebooks, and any handouts provided by the instructor.
  • Online Resources: Some lessons may include supplementary videos or activities for listening comprehension practice.


Trial Lesson

  • Paid Trial Lesson ($55) is available once for 1st timers.
