Course Overview

The Primary 2 Chinese Enrichment program builds on the language skills developed in Primary 1, with a focus on expanding students' abilities in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Mandarin. Aligned with the MOE syllabus, this course uses interactive activities, stories, and practical exercises to deepen students' understanding of Chinese characters, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Students will engage in a variety of fun and meaningful tasks to enhance their comprehension, oral communication, and writing skills while fostering a love for the language.


Course Objectives

To further develop students' proficiency in Chinese by strengthening their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and to encourage a deeper appreciation for the language through engaging activities and daily practices.

  • Comprehension Practices (short passages, answering questions)
  • Listening Comprehension and Oral Practices (role-playing, simple dialogues)
  • Weekly Vocabulary and Grammar Practices (expanding vocabulary, sentence building)
  • Fun Show-and-Tell Projects (presenting in Chinese, sharing personal stories)


Course Content

The Primary Chinese Enrichment Programme at Agora Co-Learning Space is designed to improve students' proficiency in Chinese, focusing on oral communication, writing, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and Hanyu Pinyin. The course helps students develop confidence in speaking, writing, and understanding Chinese in a structured and engaging way.

Creative Writing (Lessons 1, 6): Students will practice writing short compositions, building on vocabulary, sentence structures, and storytelling techniques.

Open-Ended Comprehension (Lessons 2, 4): Comprehension exercises will challenge students to read short passages and respond to open-ended questions, enhancing their understanding of texts.

Oral Communication (Lessons 3, 7): Students will practice speaking through interactive activities, helping them gain fluency in everyday conversations and presentations.

Listening Comprehension (Lessons 5, 8): Listening exercises will sharpen students' ability to understand spoken Chinese, improving their listening skills through various audio activities.

Show and Tell Project (Lessons 9-10): Students will develop and present a short speech on a chosen topic, building public speaking skills and confidence.

  • Direct Instruction: Teachers will explain key vocabulary, grammar points, and writing techniques using clear examples and demonstrations.
  • Interactive Activities: Group discussions, role-plays, and storytelling exercises allow students to practice speaking in a supportive environment.
  • Comprehension Practice: Students will engage in both reading and listening comprehension tasks, developing skills in analyzing and understanding Chinese texts.
  • Writing Practice: Creative writing prompts will encourage students to craft short stories or simple compositions, reinforcing their grammar and vocabulary.
  • Show and Tell: Students will create and present a speech, developing their public speaking skills in front of peers and teachers.
  • Peer Collaboration: Peer reviews and collaborative exercises allow students to work together and learn from one another, fostering a supportive learning community.


Prerequisites

This course is designed for Primary 1 and Primary 2 students with a basic understanding of Chinese. Familiarity with Hanyu Pinyin, basic sentence structures, and commonly used Chinese characters is helpful but not required. No advanced prior knowledge is necessary, though students should be able to recognize and write primary Chinese characters and phrases.


Assessment Methods

Students will be assessed based on:

  • Vocabulary Quizzes: Weekly quizzes on vocabulary and character recognition to reinforce new learning.
  • Comprehension Assessments: Regular quizzes and activities focused on reading comprehension and listening comprehension to evaluate understanding.
  • Oral Presentations: Students will be assessed on their speaking skills, including pronunciation, fluency, and clarity during oral communication activities and the Show and Tell presentation.
  • Creative Writing: Evaluation of written work based on creativity, grammar, vocabulary, and structure.
  • Show and Tell Project: A final evaluation based on the presentation's clarity, organization, language usage, and confidence in speaking.


Required Materials

  • Writing Materials: Pens, pencils, erasers, and notebooks for writing exercises.
  • Audio Resources: Audio materials for listening comprehension activities (provided in class).
  • Practice Sheets: Weekly vocabulary and character practice sheets (provided).


Trial Lesson

  • Paid Trial Lesson ($55) is available once for 1st timers.
