Description

Let your child roll up their sleeves, get a little messy, and explore the exciting world of food science!

Course overview:

In this workshop, children will:

  • 👨‍🍳 Make their own fresh bread and butter from scratch
  • 🧪 Discover the science behind baking and churning
  • 🍞 Bring home their handmade treats to enjoy with the family!

Course content:

🥖 Part 1: Bread Making

  • Mix, knead and shape their own dough using everyday ingredients
  • Learn about natural yeast vs chemical leavening: what makes bread rise?
  • Observe fermentation in action and how bubbles and air pockets form
  • Understand how heat, gluten, and time work together to create soft, fluffy bread
  • Explore fun science terms like "carbon dioxide," "gluten structure," and "proofing"

🧈 Part 2: Butter Making

  • Shake and churn cream into real butter—by hand!
  • See what happens when fat, liquid, and movement come together
  • Learn about emulsions and separation (great for budding food chemists!)
  • Add optional herbs or flavours to customise their own butter
  • Package and label their butter to bring home

Throughout the workshop:

  • Children will work independently and in pairs, guided by the instructors
