Description

Course Overview:

Join us for an informative and activity packed 2-day holiday camp learning all about Buckminster Fuller’s Geodesic Dome, the benefits of a Bio Dome and how it supports the Rainforest Ecosystem. Learn the topics of Science, Math, Art & Architecture in the process of building up your own Bio Dome structure and design your own Rainforest environment. Children will have lots of fun building up their own unique Geodesic Bio Dome.

Course Content:

Learn to measure, cut and connect struts to form individual Geodesic Dome: Children will take struts and form a dome-like structure by connecting all the ends together.

Creative use of materials to design individual Rainforest: From ideation to incorporating their materials into their own waterfalls and trees. Children will learn to be creative with the resources provided to them to achieve the rainforest that they've imagined.

Learning Outcomes:

Children at this workshop are introduced to Design and Architecture concepts and principles through hands-on sketching and model-making.

They are introduced to the Design Thinking process which promotes a solution-based approach in their creations; by focusing on who they are designing for and responding to the user’s needs and challenges.

Children are also introduced to space planning and learn how to draw their ideal room plan before testing their building forms in 3D. Every project is different and child-led; while we guide each child along to be confident in expressing their ideas and showing them ways to materialise them. The children were amazed by their own creations at the end of each workshop!

Teaching Methods:

Project-Based Learning: Children work on architectural projects, such as designing and building models of houses, buildings, or cities. This approach allows them to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical and meaningful way.

Design Thinking: Children are encouraged to think critically and solve design problems through the design thinking process. They learn to empathise with users, define problems, generate ideas, create prototypes, and test and iterate their designs.

Visual and Spatial Thinking: Children develop their visual and spatial thinking abilities through activities like sketching, drawing, and creating 3D models. They learn to visualise and communicate their ideas effectively.
