Description
Course Overview:
By 2050, 70% of the world's population will live in urban areas. To meet this challenge, cities must now be carefully designed and managed to ensure people can live well while also taking care of the environment, using resources wisely, and thinking about the future.
Course Content:
In this 1-day Holiday Camp, Students will be introduced to sustainable city planning strategies to design a sustainable and livable city that is well-connected ensuring necessities like water, food, good healthcare and education are easily accessible.
Students will learn a well-designed city is less reliant on cars, where walking and cycling are the main ways of getting around, thus promoting a human-centric urban environment.
To create their Eco-City prototype, students will learn the following essential key elements contributing to sustainable city planning but not limited to the provision of Green Spaces, Clean Energy, Efficient Transportation and Recycling & Waste Management.
It will be a fun, info-packed and educational session learning to be a City Planner for a day!
Learning Outcomes:
Over this immersive 1 day at camp, children will design and build a 3D model prototype of their future eco-friendly city while exploring various green and sustainable features. Children will get the chance to come up with brilliant ideas and express their eeco-designconcepts in their models which they can proudly bring home.
Teaching Methods:
Project-Based Learning: Children work on architectural projects, such as designing and building models of houses, buildings, or cities. This approach allows them to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical and meaningful way.
Design Thinking: Children are encouraged to think critically and solve design problems through the design thinking process. They learn to empathize with users, define problems, generate ideas, create prototypes, and test and iterate their designs.
Visual and Spatial Thinking: Children develop their visual and spatial thinking abilities through activities like sketching, drawing, and creating 3D models. They learn to visualise and communicate their ideas effectively.
