Basic 1 - Build and Ride with DOCYKE

Course Overview:

Calling all young inventors! This exciting 6-hour course is designed to spark your creativity and introduce you to the world of engineering. 

Using a real aluminium profile with bolts and nuts, the students will build and modify simple rides (e.g. skate scooters) and design amazing creatures.

Course content:

Day 1

• Introduction of DOCYKE and the concept of building and assembly
• Safety briefing
• In pairs, students will learn about the DOCYKE system through building a simple vehicle (choose between a skate scooter or a push bike) by following the manual
• Through the building, students will build their skills of using allen keys and be more aware of the 3-D space
• Students will then modify their rides based on their needs (e.g. their height)
• Ride their creations!

Day 2

• Each pair to design and build animals, with the incorporation of the animal's special features (e.g. wings)
• Students will consider how the DOCYKE parts should move with relation to one another, and how to balance the animal so it can stand (intuitively science concepts like moments and centre of gravity are introduced)"

Learning outcomes:

Through the Build and Ride programme, students will:

• Acquire basic skills in handling tools and equipment​
• Apply mechanics and engineering principles​
• Learn through collaborative hands-on exploration​
• Develop problem solving skills, critical thinking, creativity, growth mindset

Teaching methods:

Students build their own vehicles and create animals with their own hands!

Prerequisites:

Come with the purpose of having fun while learning!

Assessment methods:

No assessments will be done

Required materials:

Every pair should have at least a device that has a browser with internet connection (to refer to the building manual for Day One).

Important notes:

There will be a 15-minute short break during the workshop for children to take a rest
