Course Overview

Kids will continue their adventure in Cars Camp Part 2, driving deeper into the thrilling world of cars, racing, and innovation! This camp challenges participants to design and build their own functioning cars using only recycled materials and electric motors, combining creativity with a strong focus on sustainability. Through engaging storytelling and design thinking, children will explore the mechanics of motion before getting hands-on to craft their very own eco-friendly vintage car model.

Course Content

  • Design Challenge: The core challenge is to design and build a functional car using recycled materials and electric motors.
  • Applied Engineering: Explore how motion works, understanding the basic physics and mechanics behind vehicle movement.
  • Sustainability Focus: Learn to combine creativity with sustainability, utilizing upcycled items in construction.
  • Design Thinking & Storytelling: Engage in processes that promote design thinking and storytelling to bring a unique character and narrative to each car model.
  • Hands-on Crafting: Practical sessions dedicated to crafting and assembling a personalized eco-friendly vintage car model.

Learning Outcome

By the end of this camp, students will:

  • Understand Basic Mechanics: Gain an introductory understanding of how electric motors and basic vehicle motion work.
  • Apply Design Thinking: Develop the ability to approach a problem (building a car) with iterative design and innovation.
  • Practice Sustainability: Learn the value of upcycling and building with recycled materials.
  • Enhance Creativity: Combine engineering challenges with creative design and storytelling.
  • Complete a Project: Successfully craft and take home their very own functional, eco-friendly vintage car model.

Teaching Method

The camp uses a hands-on, project-based method that prioritizes sustainable and creative engineering.

  • Project-Based Learning: The entire curriculum is focused on achieving the final goal of designing and building the car model.
  • Design Challenge: Learning is driven by tackling a real-world design and resource constraint challenge (recycled materials).
  • Guided Engineering: Instructors provide guidance on the use of electric motors and understanding motion principles.
