Chinese Art & Calligraphy

Course Overview

Chinese Art & Calligraphy is a unique programme that blends traditional Chinese calligraphy with modern art techniques. Children will learn essential skills such as brush handling, stroke control, and the five-finger grip, while exploring creative forms like ink printing, collage, paper cutting, and installation art. This course is designed to inspire self-expression, enhance fine motor skills, and cultivate an appreciation for heritage and art innovation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, students will:

• Master basic brush stroke techniques
• Gain confidence in drawing, cutting, and composing artwork
• Develop spatial awareness, precision, and creativity
• Explore a range of traditional and modern media
• Express thoughts and feelings through visual storytelling

Teaching Approach

Students will begin with guided practice — learning how to start, move, and finish each stroke — and gradually progress to freehand work and independent projects. The class encourages individual exploration, balanced with structured instruction to support artistic growth.

Prerequisites

No prior experience required. Open to all skill levels.

Required Materials

Students will need a full calligraphy material set. Those without one may purchase a set from the instructor.

• Material Fee: $40 per semester (payable directly to the instructor)
• Please note that the course fee is not inclusive of the material fee ($40)
• Successful registrants will receive a confirmation and further instructions before the term starts.
