Description
Course Overview:
“Imagination rules the world.” Napoleon Bonaparte
What happens when Earth’s resources are depleted, can you imagine life on another planet?
In this 2-day holiday camp, let’s explore how we can terraform Mars, to transform a presently uninhabitable planet into one where humans can survive and to build a home on Mars.
Children will have fun learning the differences and challenges of Mars vs. Earth and understanding the conditions required to design for living on Mars. For Day 1 morning, children will create their own Martian land base model with hills and terrain before starting on the extensive space planning of their home on Mars with consideration for spaces to live, shelter, clothing, farming, supply of air, water and electricity for habitation.
Course Content:
Children will be introduced to current examples and research on Space Architecture to inspire possible design outcomes. They will have fun getting creative prototyping their home design on Mars with everyday objects and model-making materials, completing their model design by Day 2 afternoon for group sharing of ideas.
It will be a fun workshop to expand children's imagination and look into the future of possibilities, honing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to think of out-the-box in building up their Home on Mars model prototype.
DesignTinkers camps are specially curated and led by instructors who are experienced architects, designers and educators with the passion and experience of working with young children to nurture their creative interests. Camps are held in our spacious and conducive classroom for kids to create and explore freely under our guidance.
Learning Outcomes:
Over these immersive 2 days at camp, children will design and build a 3D model prototype of their future home on Mars. Children will get the chance to come up with brilliant ideas and express their concepts in their model which they can proudly bring home.
Teaching Methods:
Project-Based Learning: Children work on architectural projects, such as designing and building models of houses, buildings, or cities. This approach allows them to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical and meaningful way.
Design Thinking: Children are encouraged to think critically and solve design problems through the design thinking process. They learn to empathize with users, define problems, generate ideas, create prototypes, and test and iterate their designs.
Visual and Spatial Thinking: Children develop their visual and spatial thinking abilities through activities like sketching, drawing, and creating 3D models. They learn to visualise and communicate their ideas effectively.
Prerequisites:
