Course Introduction

During the march holidays, spend an afternoon making a “robots and monsters” wooden toy and your very own animal lamp! Our 3-hour workshop introduces children to hand tools, light electric tools and get a feel of working with wood.


Learning Objective

What will I learn:

Building blocks are considered the most classic of childhood toys. It is such a successful toy because it allows for self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. The importance of woodwork in early childhood education – building confidence and providing a foundation for lifelong learning and STEAM.

- Safety in the workshop

- Sanding techniques

- Joining methods


Class Structure

Introduction: Workshop safety and project briefing 15 mins

Part 1: Wooden Toy 45 mins

Part 2: Animal Lamp 120 mins


Curriculum

What to expect:

There are two projects in this 3 hour workshop! Your child will experience a wood working version of Montessori building blocks, they will design, plan and build their own toy. The open-ended nature of the sessions permits children to explore their own assumptions, make mistakes and harness their own problem-solving skills. Next they will make an animal lamp! They get to use tools they normally would not use at home and work with some natural materials.


Additional details:

- Attire: Please wear closed toe shoes to the venue.

- Attire: Comfortable, No loose or flowy clothing.

- No use of power tools for the safety of the children.

- All personal PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided
