Course Overview

Looking for a meaningful way to spend the September holidays? Our **RedDot Holiday Debate Camp** introduces children to the exciting world of debate in a fun and supportive environment. With guidance from experienced coaches, Primary 3 to Primary 5 children will learn to think critically, express themselves confidently, and work as a team while exploring thought-provoking topics.


This 2-day camp is suitable for beginners and those with some exposure, giving every child the chance to grow in communication, confidence, and critical thinking.


Course Objectives

  • Understand the Basics of Debate – Learn what a debate is, its structure, and the roles of speakers.
  • Build Critical Thinking – Analyse arguments, form counterarguments, and evaluate evidence.
  • Develop Communication Skills – Practise speaking clearly, using persuasive language, and listening actively.
  • Boost Confidence – Express opinions with assurance in front of peers.

Course Content

Day 1: Introduction to Debate

Children will learn what debate is, explore basic formats, and practise choosing sides. Through fun icebreakers, research tasks, and a guided mock debate, they begin applying their new skills.


Day 2: Debate Skills in Action

The focus shifts to argumentation, rebuttal techniques, and persuasive speaking. Children will take part in practice debates, receive feedback, and present in a final debate showcase. Certificates will be awarded.

Teaching Approach

Our coaches use interactive activities, group discussions, and guided practice debates to create an engaging and supportive environment. Every child is encouraged to speak up and share their views.


Prerequisites

  • Suitable for P3 to P5 students who have no exposure of debate at all.


Assessment

Coaches will assess learning through short quizzes, practice debates, and observation of communication skills.


Required Materials

  • Worksheets will be provided. Children should bring their own writing materials.
  • Please wear school uniform or PE T-shirt
