Course Overview

This 1-day Holiday Camp is for students aged 12-16 who have already completed “Level 1: Introduction to TinkerCAD + 3D Printing.” The aim is to deepen their 3D modelling and printing skills, helping them move beyond basics into more advanced design, optimisation, and finishing techniques. Led by experienced instructors and 3D printing experts, the programme is hands-on, immersive, and tailored to learners ready to take their maker skills to the next level.

Course Content

  • Advanced modelling techniques using TinkerCAD, exploring more complex forms and structures.
  • Designing and printing original creations (students’ own projects).
  • Learning about slicing software: preparing models for print, understanding support structures.
  • Hands-on removal of supports, tweaking print settings, and optimising for better print results.
  • Model, build, and print a “School Clock Tower” project to practice scale, detail, and structural considerations.
  • Mini-challenges, quizzes, peer sharing, and fun prizes to motivate and reinforce learning.

Learning Outcome

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • Confidently design more complex 3D models in TinkerCAD.
  • Understand and manage slicing settings, supports, and print optimisation.
  • Process, finish, and assess printed models with improved quality.
  • Problem-solve typical 3D printing issues (like warping, support failure, print defects).
  • Apply design thinking, creativity, and precision in their own projects.

Teaching Method

  • Project-based instruction: Students work on their own designs as well as guided projects.
  • Pairing with prior knowledge: Builds from basics in Level 1, pushing boundaries further.
  • Hands-on learning: Every student prints their own model; they physically experience the full pipeline (design → print → finish).
  • Immediate feedback & iteration: Instructors guide students through adjustments; learn by doing and refining.
  • Engaging format: Mini challenges, quizzes, peer sharing, and some healthy competition to make learning fun and memorable.
