Course Overview:

Muay Thai, also known as "The Art of Eight Limbs," is the sports form of the traditional Thai martial art known widely for its powerful striking techniques. Our programme aims to build students' confidence and discipline while teaching them fundamental Muay Thai techniques. Participants will learn the basics of Muay Thai, including stances, strikes, defence, and also physical conditioning to enhance their concentration, coordination, and motor skills.

Curriculum Overview:

Basic Stance and Techniques:

- Introduction to basic Muay Thai stance and footwork

Striking Package:

Fundamental Muay Thai Strikes: 

- ⁠Punches

- ⁠Elbows

- ⁠Knees

- ⁠Kicks

Defence Package:

Fundamental Muay Thai Defenses: 

- Blocks

- ⁠Evades

- ⁠Counters

Sparring & Competitive Package:

- Introduction to Muay Thai Clinch

- Introduction to Sparring

- General competitive preparation and fundamentals of Muay Thai fights

Physical Conditioning:

- Core Strengthening

- Muay Thai Jump Rope

- Flexibility

Learning Outcomes:

- Effective execution of striking techniques

- Effective display of defences against striking techniques

- Enhanced developmental strength through physical conditioning

- Improved concentration and discipline

- Develop confidence especially in self-defence and against a potential bullying situation

Prerequisites:

No prerequisites required

Assessment Methods:

Onyx Muay Thai Junior participants will be graded from Grades 1 to 5. Grading will occur twice a year on stipulated dates. In general, grading proficiency and progression is through a combination of execution of proper technique and competitive experience.

Trial Lessons:

• A paid trial lesson ($42) is available once for first-timers 

Important Notes:

• Min 4 students to start a class 
• No classes on Public Holiday

Required Equipment:

Investing in the required equipment for Muay Thai classes, such as boxing gloves, shin guards, and proper attire, is essential for safety, performance, and comfort. These items not only protect your child and their training partners from injuries but also enhance their technique, allowing them to train effectively and confidently.

Please note that the child must purchase a Muay Thai equipment set when enrolling in the regular class. One set of uniforms and equipment costs $140, which include

• Boxing glove
• Shin Guard
• Muay Thai attire (gym T-shirt and Muay Thai shorts)
