Roblox Game Design Camp

Course Overview: 

Is your child interested not just in playing Roblox but also in game design? At our newest digital camp, we take Roblox to the next level. Our campers go beyond playing their favourite gaming platform and explore its immersive game creator engine, Roblox Studio.

Whether you're a curious beginner or contemplating joining our Roblox camp, this event offers the perfect chance to dive into the world of Roblox game design. From player to game developer!

Roblox Studio allows kids to create any kind of game they can imagine from thrilling kart races and risky obstacle courses to tricky puzzles, and more. Our campers will learn how to use Roblox Studio’s many tools and pick up the basic concepts of game and level design in a familiar environment. By the end of the camp, your child will have a collection of games to build on and share with their friends.

Course Content: 

• Master the art of designing worlds, adding and transforming objects
• Conclude the session with a collective play on a Ninja Warrior map
• Learn camera navigation using WASD, QE keys, and the mouse
• Explore selecting, moving, scaling, and rotating tools for precise adjustments
• Navigate the toolbox to discover models, scripts, plugins, audio, and image files
• Dive into the explorer window to view and edit workspace components
• Understand anchoring to prevent objects from falling off during gameplay
• Add personalised elements to create large models
• Develop terrain-creation skills for forests, deserts, caves, and more

Learning Outcomes: 

• Technical Proficiency: Students will become proficient in using Roblox Studio and its various tools.
• Creative Game Design: Students will learn to design different types of games, including obstacle courses, adventure games, racing games, and battle royale arenas.
• Programming Skills: Upper primary students will be introduced to Lua programming and apply it to modify game elements and NPCs.
• Asset Integration: Students will understand how to use assets from the toolbox to enhance their games.
• World Customisation: Students will be able to customise game worlds to create unique and immersive experiences.
• Project Management: Learning how to publish projects properly to share them with the Roblox community.
• Collaboration and Competition: Encouraging collaboration in game creation and providing opportunities for friendly competition among students.

By the end of the camp, students should have a well-rounded understanding of game design within the Roblox platform, with the ability to create and share their own games with others.

Teaching Methods:

Everyone can learn programming and digital literacy. Our curriculum contains fully gamified, modular, and smart lessons to make learning FUN. We believe in the methodology of 'Learning by Doing'. In our lessons, theory and practice go hand in hand. Research shows that doing the projects while learning the theory results in long-term results and a good foundation for overall success.
