Roblox Game Hacker Camp

Course Overview: 

Our campers will go beyond playing and explore the actual code behind their favourite gaming platform! They will design and create their own Roblox game, using and editing scripts in the Lua programming language! The primary objective of the camp is to enhance students' logical capabilities through the creation of various functional Roblox game mods using a variety of tools, game design concepts, and Roblox Studio. Through this process, students will gain insights into Lua programming, the language used by Roblox. By the end of the camp, students will have the skills to craft and publish their very own custom Roblox games, inviting friends to play on any platform, including mobile, Xbox, and PC.

Course Content: 

Day 1: On the first day, we familiarise ourselves with the Roblox Studio Software and create our own obstacle course game, known as an "obby." For upper primary students, an introduction to the LUA programming language will also be provided.

Day 2: On the second day, we learn how to use the Terrain Generator tool and customise our world, laying the foundation for creating various adventure games in the future. Upper primary students will also add talking NPCs to their world and modify their programs.

Day 3: On the third day, we develop a car/spaceship racing game with the objective of collecting coins along the track. We'll craft an entire world and characters from the toolbox. For upper primary students, the session will include creating a graphical user interface that may require customisation.

Day 4: On the fourth day, we design either an amusement park or a "the floor is lava" game and learn how to publish our projects to the entire Roblox community.

Day 5: On the fifth day, we collaboratively design a miniature battle royale arena and compete against each other, leveraging the knowledge we've amassed over the week.

Learning Outcomes: 

• Technical Proficiency: Students will become proficient in using Roblox Studio and its various tools.
• Creative Game Design: Students will learn to design different types of games, including obstacle courses, adventure games, racing games, and battle royale arenas.
• Programming Skills: Upper primary students will be introduced to Lua programming and apply it to modify game elements and NPCs.
• Asset Integration: Students will understand how to use assets from the toolbox to enhance their games.
• World Customisation: Students will be able to customise game worlds to create unique and immersive experiences.
• Project Management: Learning how to publish projects properly to share them with the Roblox community.
• Collaboration and Competition: Encouraging collaboration in game creation and providing opportunities for friendly competition among students.

By the end of the camp, students should have a well-rounded understanding of game development within the Roblox platform, with the ability to create and share their own games with others.
