Course Overview:

This interactive camp harnesses students’ innate creativity, to introduce basic engineering concepts around how various things work - including cars, machines, gears, computers, etc. Students collaborate in a series of progressive hands-on activities to understand and apply scientific concepts related to speed, aerodynamics, circuits, force, rotation, etc. Applying the concepts learnt, students build their own race cars which they get to take home after the course. This gamified course also empowers students to appreciate the software aspect of machines (computers), and introduces them to algorithms and coding, through a series of problem solving challenges. At the end of the season, students bring their own customised race car home!

Course Content:

Day 1 : Introduction to the race car & its various parts. Discuss fun facts about cars, and students’ existing body of knowledge on race cars and engineering. Students commence work on building their own race car

Day 2 : Computers in cars - Discuss the role of software and technology in cars. Introduction to coding.

Day 3 : What makes cars fast? Watch videos and participate in activities to understand racing concepts. Work with Robots to understand how we can give commands to robot and make them follow instructions. Also, work further on car models

Day 4 : Coding : Understand the role of computers in our lives, and why they are used. Get introduced to pattern recognition and loops. Build mazes and make your robot do complicated pattern recognition. Use Conditions to help make robots take decisions.

Day 5 : Delve deeper into car parts, gear-up/down trains, and other factors. Finish your car models and race them on the track!

Learning Outcomes:

This course has two main themes:

  1. Understanding the mechanical engineering & technology/software involved in a Race Car
  2. Get introduced to algorithms and computer programming through progressive coding challenges.

In this hands-on activity, students build their own race car models which they take home at the end of the season.

Teaching Methods:

Project-Based Learning: Encourage children to work on coding projects that align with their interests and passions. This approach allows them to apply coding skills to create something meaningful to them.

Prerequisites:

No prerequisites required

Assessment Methods:

Regular quizzes will be given on a daily basis to test and understand kids' learning.

Children will get instant feedback on their cars from the instructors and children get to participate in car races with their friends the cars to understand how to make the cars faster.

Required Materials:

Stationery, Notebook, Water bottle, and a Jacket.

Important Notes:

No important notes.
