Course Overview

Does your child find Chinese lessons boring or stressful? What if they could learn Mandarin - on a real tall ship at sea?

This March holidays, Agora Colearning has partnered with Han Tang Learning and the Royal Albatross to create a one-of-a-kind immersive experience that blends sailing, adventure, and Chinese language learning. Designed especially for children from English-speaking families who have limited exposure to Mandarin, this camp takes Chinese out of the classroom and brings it to life on the open water.

No textbooks. No worksheets. Just a real maritime adventure where Chinese becomes fun, natural, and memorable. Each session is a standalone experience - sign up for one day or both!

Camp Itinerary Date:

Monday, 23 March 2026 (School Holiday)

Time: 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM

  • 9:30 AM - 9:40 AM: Assembly at Agora Colearning & Pre-departure Briefing
  • 9:40 AM - 10:30 AM: Supervised Transfer to Royal Albatross (via Sentosa Express monorail)

  • 1:00 PM - 1:35 PM: Transfer back & Dismissal at Agora Colearning

Transportation: Please ensure your child brings their EZ-Link card (with sufficient value), as the group will be taking the monorail to and from Sentosa.

Student Care: Children enrolled in Agora Student Care will be escorted directly back to their student care room upon arrival at 1:35 PM.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this experience, your child will be able to:

  • Use 10-20 new Chinese vocabulary words related to sailing, the sea, directions, and maritime culture with confidence (除了会认识到 “水手,帆船,船长,方向,航线”等,还会学习到重要的航海事迹和基本的航行原理)
  • Follow simple Mandarin instructions in a real-world, non-classroom context
  • Describe their experience in basic Mandarin - what they saw, did, and enjoyed
  • Demonstrate increased willingness and confidence to speak and engage in Chinese

Teaching Method

  • This camp uses a Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and Total Physical Response (TPR) approach, meaning children learn Chinese by doing real things - not by memorising lists or filling in blanks.
  • Immersive, experiential learning - all activities serve as natural contexts for Mandarin use
  • Bilingual scaffolding - instructions are given in English and Mandarin, with increasing Mandarin use as the day progresses; children are gently encouraged but never pressured
  • Hands-on, multi-sensory engagement - sailing, rope work, speedboat rides, and observation activities engage the body, not just the mind

⚠️ Important Note on Outdoor Learning & Consent

All activities are conducted under the supervision of certified professional sailing instructors, experienced Mandarin educators from Han Tang Learning, and Agora Colearning staff.

Safety equipment will be provided on board and all children will be supervised at all times - from assembly at HarbourFront Centre through to dismissal.
