SkyQuest Lab Chinese Debate Level 2

Course Overview:

Backed by a think tank of Chinese debate experts, our classes are led by experienced debaters from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Chinese Debate Teams, alongside elite English debate specialists. Under their expert guidance, students will receive high-quality coaching, learning to analyse more complex issues, building on their foundation from level 1. Students will dive deeper into stylistic presentation and logical thinking, honing their skills to construct persuasive arguments and communicate effectively in Chinese and English-equipping them with essential skills for academic success and beyond.

Course Content:

This enrichment course is designed to enhance Chinese debate skills for primary and secondary-level students through engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons. Students will participate in five terms that include in-depth classroom drills, full-debate simulations, and discussions on contemporary socio-economic issues and current affairs. The sixth session concludes with a showcase debate, where students apply their learning in a formal competitive setting. The course systematically hones advanced debate techniques, oral presentation skills, and effective teamwork. The Level 2 course will increase students' exposure to international debate opportunities, and students will deepen their critical thinking, confidence, and mastery of Chinese for both academic and career contexts.

Teaching Methods:

The course covers highly interactive story-based and theory-based classes on critical thinking, argument construction, language skills, and debate practice. Students begin by exploring enriching narratives and engaging in interactive seminars where they learn to identify claims, construct reasons and support them in Chinese. They progress through structured activities such as brainstorming arguments, refining logic, practising rebuttals, and delivering speeches.

Prerequisites:

Students to complete SkyQuest Lab Chinese Debate Level 1

Assessment Method:

Students will be evaluated based on their class performance and final debate showcase at the last lesson of the semester. Additionally, students will be given opportunities to participate and test their understanding at international debate competitions.
