Assessment methods

Progression is primarily based on performance of certain movements and forms, during which the following will apply:

  • Forms (Poomsae): Students are required to perform specific patterns of movements that demonstrate their understanding of techniques, stances, and transitions. Accuracy, power, balance, and rhythm are key criteria.
  • Basic Techniques: Evaluation of fundamental kicks, punches, blocks, and stances. Instructors look for proper form, execution, and precision.
  • Combination Techniques: Students must demonstrate their ability to combine different techniques fluidly and effectively.

Note that for formal belt grading, separate grading fees will apply. The coach will notify you when your child is ready for a grading test and provide details on the fee and payment process. Grading opportunities occur frequently, with several chances throughout the year. The coach carefully assesses each student’s progress to determine when they are ready to participate in a grading test, ensuring they have the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
