Course overview
Each week the students will conduct their series of experiments relevant to the science subject, usually 3-5 experiments in one session, individually or in groups.
They can take their experiments home if it’s not too messy!
Students will go through a series of topics as per below. All these sessions are fun, hands-on and interactive. The children will be taking home some of their scientific activities that they create.

Here are a few learning outcomes for each week of the 16-week fun science course::
Week 1: Forces
- What are forces? - Understand the basic types: contact (e.g., friction) and non-contact (e.g., gravity).
- Force and motion - Learn how forces cause objects to move or change direction.
- Balanced vs. unbalanced forces: How forces can be equal (balance) or unequal (cause movement).
Week 2: Mummification
- Discover how ancient Egyptians used mummification to preserve bodies for the afterlife.
- The science of decay: Learn about the role of dehydration, embalming, and airtight wrapping (Make your own little mummy).
- Chemical processes: Explore the preservation process, including the use of natron and other materials.
Week 3: Air Pressure (Air Force)
- Explore the concept of force exerted by air on objects.
- Experiments: Simple experiments like make your own bug catcher!
Week 4: Gravity
- What is gravity? Understand how gravity pulls objects toward Earth.
- Gravity's role : How gravity affects everything
- Mass vs. weight: The difference between an object's mass and its weight due to gravity.
Week 5: Let There Be Light
- Nature of light: Learn about light as a form of energy and its properties (reflection, refraction).
- "How we see color": Understand the visible spectrum and how light interacts with objects to create color.
- "Light and optics": Explore how lenses, mirrors, and other tools manipulate light.
Week 6: Optical Illusions
- How we see: Understand how light and the brain work together to create visual perceptions.
- Famous optical illusions: Explore classic illusions and learn why the brain interprets images the way it does.
- The science of perception: How different shapes, colors, and movements can trick the eye.
Week 7: Transpiration
- What is transpiration? Learn about how plants absorb water through roots and release it through leaves.
- The water cycle : Understand how transpiration fits into the larger water cycle.
- Importance to plants: How transpiration helps with nutrient transport and cooling the plant.
Week 8: Flowers
- Structure of a flower: Learn about the parts of a flower and their functions (petals, stamen, pistil, etc.).
- Pollination: How flowers reproduce through pollinators like bees, birds, and wind.
- Life cycle of a flower: From seed to bloom to seedling, understanding the growth stages.
Week 9: Polymers
- What are polymers? Learn about materials made of long, repeating chains of molecules.
- Everyday uses: Explore the many ways polymers are used in daily life
Week 10: Strange Fluids
- Non-Newtonian fluids: What makes these fluids act differently from regular liquids (e.g., cornstarch and water mixtures).
- Examples and experiments: Explore how these fluids behave under pressure, like Oobleck.
Week 11: Engineering
- What is engineering? Explore different branches of engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical, etc.).
- Problem-solving with engineering: How engineers design and build solutions to real-world problems.
- Hands-on projects: Simple engineering challenges like building a bridge or creating a paper airplane.
Week 12: Evolution and Genetics
- What is evolution? Understand the theory of natural selection and how species change over time.
- Adaptations: How living organisms adapt to their environments for survival.
- What is heredity and the importance to evolution of life
Week 13: Weathering and Erosion
- What is weathering? The breakdown of rocks and minerals due to natural forces (e.g., wind, water, temperature).
- What is erosion? How weathered material is transported by natural forces, shaping landscapes.
Week 14: Solvents
- What is a solvent? Learn about substances that dissolve other materials, creating a solution.
- Common solvents: Water, alcohol, and oil.
- Applications: How solvents are used in cleaning, cooking, and science experiments.
Week 15: Pressure
- What is pressure? Explore how force applied over an area affects liquids, gases, and solids.
- Pressure in liquids and gases: How it’s related to depth (in water) or altitude (in the atmosphere).
- Everyday pressure How pressure affects everyday activities
Week 16: Turbines
- What are turbines? Learn how turbines convert kinetic energy from wind, water, or steam into electrical energy.
- Types of turbines: Wind, hydroelectric, and steam turbines.
- Renewable energy: Understand how turbines play a key role in renewable energy sources.
