Overview

Many children find composition hard because they rely on memorised model essays. Their stories end up sounding the same. This weekly class takes a different path. Your child learns how to find their own ideas and shape them into clear, engaging stories.

Each lesson also builds the language skills tested in Paper 2. Grammar, vocabulary, editing and comprehension are explained clearly and practised often. Your child gets detailed feedback on their work, so they know what to keep doing and what to work on next.

Who it's for

Primary 4 to 6 students who:

• find it hard to start a composition or run out of ideas
• write stories that feel flat or predictable
• lose marks on grammar, editing or comprehension
• want to build confidence for the PSLE English exam

Class format

• Weekly class, 2 hours per lesson
• Small group, up to 10 students
• Lessons mix group discussion, guided practice and independent writing
• Lesson notes and worksheets are provided

What will be covered?

Creative Writing (Paper 1, Continuous Writing)

• Brainstorming and planning: turning a picture prompt into a fresh, original idea
• Strong openings and endings that avoid predictable starters like "One sunny day"
• Building suspense before the story's high point
• Show, don't tell: using the senses and small details to bring a scene to life
• Organising paragraphs so the story flows from start to finish
• Regular full composition practice with personal marking and feedback

Paper 2 (Language Use and Comprehension)

• Grammar and vocabulary, with clear explanations of the rules behind each answer
• Visual text comprehension
• Grammar cloze and comprehension cloze
• Editing for spelling and grammar
• Synthesis and transformation
• Open-ended comprehension: reading closely and answering in full, precise sentences

Important Notes

• Please bring your own writing stationery: pens, pencils and erasers.
• Short breaks are given during the lesson to keep students fresh and focused.
• Writing improves with steady practice. We encourage your child to complete the home practice given each week.

Replacement Option

Make-up classes are not available for this programme. If your child misses a class, the paid lesson will be carried forward to the next term. Nothing is lost.

Please let us know as early as you can if your child cannot attend. Even a message on the morning of the class helps, for example, if your child is unwell. This lets us inform the teacher in time. Thank you for your understanding.
