Description

Course Overview

This holiday workshop is for students aged 12-16 years who want to explore the world of 3D design and printing. Under guidance from experienced instructors and 3D printing specialists, participants will learn how to turn ideas into real objects — from sketching in digital form to watching their own creations print layer by layer. The focus is on creativity, experimentation, and building confidence in digital fabrication.

Course Content

  • Introduction to 3D modelling using TinkerCAD: basic shapes, tools, and how to manipulate forms.
  • Design and build your own mini stationery pot, as a first project to apply learnt skills.
  • Exporting designs and preparing them for 3D printing: understanding file formats, slicing, and the printing process.
  • While prints are ongoing, deeper exploration of TinkerCAD functionalities: digital forms, design challenges.
  • Fun mini-challenges, quizzes, and peer sharing to encourage engagement and creativity.

Learning Outcome

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • Use TinkerCAD to design simple 3D models with confidence.
  • Export and prepare a digital model for 3D printing.
  • Observe and understand the 3D printing process in practice.
  • Apply creativity in design challenges; think spatially and visually.
  • Collaborate, receive feedback, and push creative boundaries.

Teaching Method

  • Hands-on instruction: Students will actively use TinkerCAD under supervision, not just observe.
  • Project-based learning: A concrete product (stationery pot) to build skills, plus mini challenges to stretch them.
  • Guided feedback: Instructors help refine designs and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Learning by doing: Students design, print, and iterate, seeing results in real time.
  • Collaborative & fun atmosphere: Quizzes, challenges, peer sharing to make learning engaging.
