Course Overview:

In this 6-hours hands-on digital workshop, children learn about renewable energy and how it is used to power cities. Through building in Minecraft: Education Edition, hands-on projects, and team activities, students explore energy sources such as solar, wind, and water, and learn why sustainable energy is important. Children apply what they learn by designing renewable energy systems in a Minecraft world and building a simple solar-powered project. Children will compile their projects in a presentation slide and share it with the class.


Course Content:

During this program, students will complete the following activities:

  • Introduction to Renewable Energy: Learn the different types of energy sources and how renewable energy is used in Singapore.
  • Minecraft Sustainable City Build: Work in teams to build renewable energy systems in Minecraft.
  • Build a Solar Car: Construct a solar-powered car and learn how sunlight can be converted into electrical energy.
  • Team Presentation and Sharing: Create a presentation using Canva to present your group's renewable energy systems built in Minecraft.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the program, children will:

  • Understand different renewable energy sources and how it powers a city
  • Apply sustainability ideas through building and design
  • Work collaboratively in teams
  • Practice presentation and communication skills

Teaching Methods:

Project-Based Learning (PBL):Students will be participating in creative and practical projects where they apply the knowledge they've acquired

Prerequisites:

Children need to be equipped with basic IT skills to operate a laptop/computer


Assessment Methods:

At the end of the workshops, students will be sent digital copies of their work, including:

  • Presentation Slides from their group project
  • Minecraft Project World showcasing their sustainable city design
  • Video Recording of their team’s presentation

Required Materials:

Students will be required to bring the following items:

  • Laptop
  • Charger
  • Mouse for Laptops

Necessary Software:

Students will be required to have Minecraft: Education Edition Application installed on their device before the start of the camp. They will be given a Minecraft: Education Edition account that will be valid for a year from the start of the camp.
