Course Overview
Stepping into Secondary 1 can feel overwhelming - new subjects, faster pace, and higher expectations. This Sec 1 Math & Science Camp is designed to help students bridge the gap from primary to secondary, strengthen foundational concepts, and build confidence early in the year. Through structured guidance and targeted practice, students will gain clarity in key topics and develop the analytical thinking skills needed for lower secondary success.
Course Content
Math (9am - 11am)
- Algebra fundamentals (expressions, simple equations) -
- Understanding and applying algebraic manipulation
- Introduction to graphs and relationships
- Problem-solving strategies for secondary-level questions
Students will learn how to move from arithmetic thinking to algebraic reasoning - a critical shift in secondary Math.
Science (11.30am - 1pm)
- Scientific measurements and accuracy
- Introduction to Physics concepts (forces & energy basics)
- Scientific reasoning and structured answering techniques
- Reinforcement of CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning)
Lessons focus on building conceptual understanding while strengthening answering precision - essential for structured Science questions.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the camp, students will:
- Develop confidence in handling algebra and secondary-level Math questions
- Apply logical thinking and structured problem-solving strategies
- Understand foundational lower secondary Science concepts
- Answer open-ended questions clearly using proper scientific reasoning
- Transition smoothly and confidently into Sec 1 academic demands
