Wilderness Medicine Special Edition

Course Overview

Build courage in your children and let them experience a holiday like no other! In this Wilderness Medicine camp, explorers will be engaged in learning essential life skills such as communication, independence, teamwork, situational awareness, and survival techniques. Students will learn to identify different species of venomous wild critters and insects, as well as practice administering First Aid in the event of a mishap while waiting to be rescued.

That’s not all! Children will be exposed to a series of exciting outdoor activities—including navigating an obstacle course, tent pitching, and much more—allowing them to enjoy time with friends and create fond memories that will last a lifetime.

Course Content

Throughout the camp, students will explore a variety of critical wilderness topics and hands-on modules:

• Snake Bites!
• Frostbite & Hypothermia
• Tourniquets and Broken Legs
• Common Bug Bites
• Preparing for a Hike & Animal Safety
• Wilderness Medicine Fun & Graduation

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the camp, students will be able to:

• Learn about poisonous snakes and their types of venom.
• Understand the exact steps that must be taken when someone is bitten by a snake.
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of hypothermia.
• Tell the difference between mild, moderate, and severe hypothermia.
• Properly apply a tourniquet and understand when it is necessary to use one.
• Know what steps to take if someone injures themselves in the wilderness.
• Identify the different types of diseases that mosquitoes transmit.
