Design a Store

Plan, design and build a store of their own, from the shopfront to the cashier counter.

Overview

Your child steps into the world of retail and interior design. They can choose a Fashion Boutique, a Toy Store or a Hair Salon. Or they can dream up a store of their own.

First, they give their store a theme and a look. They explore how colour, form and materials work together. Then they sketch a shopfront that makes people stop, wonder and want to step inside.

Next, they plan what happens once customers walk in. Where do people go first? What do they notice? Where do they try things on and pay?

On day two, they bring it all together. They build a physical architectural model of their store, with the shopfront, floor plan and interior in one 3D space.

Who it's for

Children aged 8 to 12 who love to draw, build or rearrange a room. No design experience needed. Children are grouped by age: 8 to 9, and 10 to 12.

Class format

2-day holiday camp, 9.30am to 3pm each day.

Hands-on studio sessions, from first sketches to a finished 3D model.

Led by a team of educators, architects and designers.

- Choosing a store type and creating its theme and visual identity

- How colour, form and materials give a store its character

- Sketching and designing an inviting shopfront

- Planning the customer journey: floor plan, flow and zones

- Placing display shelves, changing rooms, cashier counters, storage and service areas

- How product placement shapes what customers notice and reach for

- Seating, materials, proportion and comfort

- Building a physical architectural model of the store

Course fee

$320 for the 2-day camp. Includes snacks, lunch and all model-making materials.
