Description

Voice. Dance. Classical music.

A whole child, developed through all three.

Course Overview

At Josiah Music Lab, voice, dance, and classical music appreciation are not taught as isolated disciplines. Instead, they are woven together into a single, holistic experience of sensory development and self-expression.

Designed to develop the "whole child," this program teaches young learners to listen with their whole body, move with intention, and find their voice. By providing a deliberately broad foundation, we focus on building essential life habits—coordination, concentration, confidence, and creative courage—that carry over into their formal schooling, social lives, and future specializations.

Course Content

The curriculum is delivered as an integrated, multidimensional arts pathway where students explore three core pillars each week:

  • Vocal Expression: Developing the natural voice through pitch, rhythm, vocal exploration, and song, helping children find confidence in their self-expression.
  • Intentional Movement & Dance: Using the body to interpret sound, building gross motor coordination, spatial awareness, and physical control.
  • Classical Music Appreciation: Active listening sessions that introduce children to the masterworks of classical music, sharpening their focus and auditory tracking skills.

Learning Outcomes

By participating in the Josiah Music Lab pathway, children will typically:

  • Develop a keen sense of rhythm, pitch, and auditory discrimination through classical music immersion.
  • Improve physical coordination, spatial awareness, and balance through intentional dance movements.
  • Cultivate deep concentration and active listening skills by engaging with complex musical structures.
  • Build immense personal confidence and creative courage by expressing themselves through voice and body.

Teaching Methods

Our classes are led by specialized instructors cross-trained in vocal performance, classical music, dance, and early childhood arts pedagogy, all grounded in the Montessori method. Rather than rigid, repetitive drills, learning is interactive and sensory-driven. The studio environment is carefully prepared to allow low-pressure exploration, where artistic concepts are absorbed naturally through movement, listening, and play.

Assessment & Performance Milestones

  • Continuous Observational Feedback: In line with our developmental philosophy, there are no formal tests or grading system. Instructors track growth through daily engagement, physical coordination milestones, and confidence levels.
  • Bi-Annual Showcases: Twice a year, children take what they have built onto a stage. These performances are not about perfection, but rather a celebratory milestone where their personal growth and confidence become visible to the audience, their parents, and most importantly, themselves.

Prerequisites

  • Skill Level: No prior background in music, singing, or dance is required. This program welcomes all children looking for a joyful, broad foundation in the arts.
