Course Overview: 

Looking for an enriching experience for your child this December holiday? RedDot's Holiday Debate Camp offers an engaging introduction to the world of debate. Guided by our knowledgeable coaches, participants will explore foundational concepts and thought-provoking topics that foster curiosity and critical thinking. This camp is suitable for students of all skill levels, providing a supportive environment for them to develop their critical thinking and argumentation skills.


Course Objectives:

  • Understanding the Basics of Debate: Students will be able to define debate, comprehend its structure, and identify the roles of each speaker.
  • Building Critical Thinking Skills: Students will analyze arguments and evidence presented in debates, while also crafting their own arguments and counterarguments.
  • Developing Communication Skills: Students will learn to articulate their ideas clearly, actively listen to different perspectives, and use appropriate body language and tone during debates.
  • Building Confidence: Students will gain the ability to express their opinions and ideas confidently, even in front of an audience.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Knowledge and Understanding: Develop a foundational understanding of debate concepts, structure, and terminology.
  • Critical Thinking and Argumentation: Enhance critical thinking skills for analysing, constructing, and countering arguments.
  • Communication Skills: Improve public speaking, persuasive language, and effective communication abilities.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Gain an appreciation for teamwork, cooperation, and the ability to work collaboratively within debate teams.
  • Practical Application and Self-Reflection: Apply learned skills in practical debate scenarios and develop the capacity for self-reflection and constructive evaluation.


Teaching Methods:

Classes will be conducted through coaching, and facilitation to encourage group discussions and dialogue. Students would be encouraged to express and communicate their thoughts and ideas.


Prerequisites:

No prior experience is needed in debating.


Assessment Methods:

Coaches will evaluate students through quizzes, practice debate matches as well as through the student's communication and their ability to express themselves.


Required Materials: 

Worksheets will be provided, students will need to bring their writing materials.


Important Notes:

The course is recommended for students aged 8-10 years old.
