Description
Course Overview:
The Young Engineers camp introduces children aged 5–10 to building, design, and problem-solving. Through hands-on projects like bridges, rockets, and roller coasters, kids explore key STEM concepts such as forces, motion, and energy in a playful, supportive setting. The camp aims to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence while developing teamwork and resilience. Topics include simple machines, construction challenges, and design experiments that encourage children to test, improve, and celebrate their ideas.
Course Content:
Children engage in hands-on STEM projects that introduce engineering concepts step by step. They start with forces and motion, experimenting with push, pull, gravity, and balance. Next, they explore energy and simple machines like levers, pulleys, and wheels. Construction challenges such as bridges and towers help them test strength and stability. Imaginative projects, including rockets and roller coasters, teach speed, momentum, and iterative design. Team-based challenges reinforce collaboration, resilience, and creative problem-solving.
Daily activities balance individual exploration and collaborative projects to keep all children engaged at an appropriate challenge level.
Learning Outcome:
- Knowledge: Understand basic STEM and engineering concepts such as force, motion, energy, and balance.
- Skills: Develop problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and resilience.
- Abilities: Build confidence in experimenting, presenting ideas, and fostering creativity and curiosity about the world.
Teaching Methods:
The camp uses a hands-on, experiential approach. Concepts are introduced through short demonstrations and immediately applied in building activities. Guided exploration allows children to test ideas, make improvements, and learn from mistakes. Team-based projects build collaboration and leadership skills, with age-appropriate challenges. Reflection discussions help connect projects to real-world engineering principles.
