Course Overview

Ready to take your game to the next level? Our Intermediate Tactics Camp transitions students from basic gameplay into tactical masterminds. Brought to you by Chess at Three, this program teaches young players how to identify, engineer, and execute tactical opportunities on the board. By turning complex patterns into creative, story-driven heuristics, kids will learn to look past basic moves and spot hidden opportunities to win material-even when their opponent defends well!

Course Content

During this high-energy camp, participants will embark on strategic challenges where they will:

  • Uncover Winning Tactics: Dive deep into the mechanics of forcing attacks, including forks, pins, skewers, and discovered attacks.
  • Develop Board Vision: Learn tactical "heuristics" (mental shortcuts) to instantly spot alignment mistakes, loose pieces, and tactical vulnerabilities.
  • Execute Material Wins: Practice setups that force favorable trades and capture valuable opposing pieces.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the camp, students will be able to:

  • Confidently identify and execute core chess tactics (forks, pins, skewers) during live games to gain material.
  • Scan the board to recognize exact situations where tactical opportunities are afoot.
  • Move from passive playing to active tactical calculation, knowing when and how to launch a forcing sequence.

Teaching Methods

Using Chess at Three's signature immersive storytelling pedagogy, complex tactical concepts are broken down into memorable, narrative-driven scenarios. Instead of dry memorization, students learn through interactive hero stories and puzzle-solving. This creative approach ensures that calculation and strategy are learned in a fun, risk-free environment where mistakes are just part of the adventure!
